Oxford: Objection is to funding, not the project
Just to clarify in your recent story regarding my comments. I am not opposed to the Stratford project. Town meeting has spoken, but rather opposed to us funding it with our limited CPC (Community Preservation Committee) money for a private company to make profit.
How about a low interest bearing loan, or agreements to pay back the CPC money so much each year once the project is completed, or just pay the town so much over a set term for the town to recoup the money they originally offered to pay. I think we certainly have avenues to negotiate instead of just capitulating for fear they might walk away.
It was mentioned how we have the building sitting this long and basically keep the project going and maybe give 100k each year… but where are we at 3 or 4 years further down the road and deeply embedded with Stratford when they could come back and say… oops… funding is lower than thought and we need more money … what shall we say then… with a building now sitting 6 or 7 years?
