Mass murder will continue
Columbine High School 4-20-1999, Sandy Hook 12-12-2012 and just recently Parkland Fla. That’s a span of 19 years and the mass murdering of our school kids continues with NO resolve and no game plan to stop these atrocious, inhumane acts.
This will continue. The lawmakers in Washington say what they will do to stop this directly after the tragedy occurs but nothing ever gets done.
Two commercial airplanes were hijacked on 9-11-2001 and flew directly into the World Trade Building in NYC. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon. Both attacks left thousands dead. It was a crime against humanity that was of epic proportions.
Directly after the attack, there was action by the Federal Government that totally changed the transportation system in the world.
Anyone who travels knows the security check you must go through to get on a plane.
I’ll give you a personal experience that is phenomenal. In January of 2002 I had open heart surgery in Boston to repair an aortic aneurism. I also at that time had my aortic valve replaced with a stainless steel St. Judes Valve. It was major surgery that took 9 hours but through the marvels of medicine today, I am still here.
In the early part of the healing process, any time I would travel, I would go through the metal detector. An alarm would go off.
I was pulled aside and had to be further screened via metal detecting wand. I told them what surgery I had but I had to present ID of my valve operation. The ID has the date of the operation and the part number of the valve. TSA is, and was, very thorough.
Last year on our winter vacation, my wife SueAnn brought back a bag of white sand. The sand was removed by TSA and chemically tested to make sure it was safe.
The TSA [Transportation Security Administration] was founded because of the 911 attack. Air travel today is safe.
The first school shooting occurred in 1999 and there has been no action by the federal government to stop these murders …. lots of talk but no action.
Any action taken was done on a local level.
After Columbine, the Town of Faihaven created a new law enforsement position called a School Resource Officer. That person was assigned to FHS for security reasons and was a Fairhaven Police officer.
Fairhaven was pro-active in this area and continues to be.
So…onto the big question, why has nothing been done on a national level to stop these murders?? There are many solutions being tossed around. One thought is having random teachers in the school with concealed weapons in case something went down.
In my years at FHS as a student, I have a hard time visualizing Mabel Knipe, Peggy Howland or Iona Kunz having a gun in their top drawer.
My solution?…gun control…gun control…. and elect lawmakers that have the guts and courage to strictly enforce gun control.

PS ..watching the news this week where Sen Mark Rubio [R] fielded questions from concerned citizens, a very emotional parent of a daughter shot in Parkland Fla. grilled Rubio and told his story. His daughter was shot in the back SEVEN TIMES by the assailent. As he was telling what happened, he broke into an emotional state. As I watched him tell what happened, I did too
