The Millicent Library is pleased to announce a free class, “Understanding American Government,” Federal and State Governments, Elections, and Democracy. This class is designed to provide citizens with a comprehensive understanding of State and Federal Governments and how they interact with one another. This informative and engaging course will cover fundamental topics including separation of powers, political parties, electoral process, and more.
This course will be led by local attorney and Fairhaven resident, Ellen Nelson. Ellen was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1985 and practiced law as a courtroom litigator for 25 years mainly as a solo practitioner working in the Probate and Family Courts with an emphasis on child protective work and rights of the disabled. Her work consisted of day to day litigation including two cases before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Ellen has a Bachelors of Arts degree in History and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts and a Juris Doctor from the Cardozo School of Law in New York. She has taught classes on government and introduction to law at community colleges and privately.
The course will be held on Saturdays, 1:30 to 2:30 from March 16 through March 30, at the Millicent, 45 Center St., Walnut Street entrance.
