As part of the One Book, Tri-Town Series focused on the novel The Muralist by B. A. Shapiro, the public libraries of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester are screening Pollock at the Mattapoisett Library on Wed., 3/20 at 6 pm.
The film stars Ed Harris as Jackson Pollock and Marcia Gay Harden as his wife and fellow artist Lee Krasner. It opens at the end of the 1940s with the abstract expressionist living a rough life in lower Manhattan, exhibiting only occasionally. He meets Lee Krasner who sees his talent and comes to oversee his life and career, working to keep him sober and focused on his work. He does experience success and fame, as well as a sad and ugly return to his old ways. Rated R, the film ends as abruptly as his life.
One of the films strengths is its depicting of the art scene of the period, its patrons and party-goers. Other well known artists are also woven throughout.
The public is welcome to this free event. The library is located at 7 Barstow Street, Mattapoisett.
