Food drive collects 4,160 pounds in Fairhaven

May 16, 2019 by Staff Writer

The 27th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the largest one-day food drive in the country, collected 25,550 pounds of food items for local pantries in Greater New Bedford, with 4,160 pounds collected in Fairhaven alone. The Fairhaven donations went to the Shepherd’s Food Pantry in Acushnet. Every year, on the second Saturday in May, residents leave nonperishable food items near their mailboxes. Letter carriers and volunteers pick up the food for distribution to local pantries. For more information on the NALC food drive, visit https://www.nalc.org/community-service/food-drive.
