Fairhaven Firefighters Association, Local 1555 treated the community to its first “Foam Day” on Saturday, 7/29/23, at Cushman Park. Firefighters used the same setup they use for fighting fires with foam, but instead of the eductor pulling chemical foam from a container, it pulled Dawn Dish Detergent into the water stream and sent it foaming on the grass at the park. The children (and some of their adults) delighted in jumping, sliding and slipping around in it, and more than a few got some painful soap in the eyes. Firefighters were prepared, though, they had another hose set up to rinse off.
Select Board member Leon Correy took his turn at the wide-angled hose, spraying kids and having fun.
“They always put on fun events,” said Mr. Correy about the FF union.
“I can slip,” said young Landyn as he came out of the foam. “It’s super slippery.”
He said it was his first time and it was better than a water slide.
As for Cecilia, she just said she liked “all of it.”
Approximately 500 people showed up. One woman was in Fairhaven visiting from Ohio, where, she said, they have foam days. Another woman was from Fall River; she said a relative in New York saw it on social meda and told her about it,.
Union president Kevin Gonsalves said they had a great turnout. They had 300 ice pops and 200 drinks, and they used ’em all up.
“They had a blast,” said Mr. Gonsalves. “Everybody had a good time.”
He said the union tries to have a few free and fun events for the community every year. Next up is the movie night on 89/20 (see page 5).
