Since 1976, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, the wonders of the season, and the beginning of a new year. In keeping with this fantastic Boston tradition, the First Night celebration will open 2023 with an array of performances.

First Night Boston begins in Copley Square at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2022, and continues with programming throughout the day and night. The last musical performance in Copley Square ends at 12:30 a.m. on January 1, 2023.

First Night Boston is centrally located in Boston’s Copley Square, with additional programming happening at Boston Common, Boston Public Library, Copley Place Mall, Long Wharf, and several churches and hotels in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, 12/31, music, dance, puppets, and more will be performed throughout the city:. Enjoy figure skating, a puppet show, drumming, clowns, dancing.

Ice sculptures make their dazzling return to First Night Boston! This year’s sculptures, themed “The 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party,” will bring an ice-themed peek into a historic moment. Sculptures will be located in Copley Square in front of Trinity Church on New Year’s Eve, and available for public viewing from 12:00 noon to 12:30 a.m. Additional sculptures will be displayed around Boston Public Library.

Ice sculpture completion time is always weather-dependent, so don’t be surprised if you see our ice carvers making some final touches in the first part of the day. Please do not attempt to throw the ice sculptures into Boston Harbor as a form of protest.

First Night Parade

At 5:50–7 p.m., the opening ceremony and First Night Parade will include giant puppets, motor vehicles, woodwind instruments. Join us again this year for the Celebrate Boston Procession featuring colorful and celebratory groups that will parade from Copley Square to Boston Common!

7 p.m. Family Fireworks

Enjoy a spectacular Fireworks display over the Boston Common, brought to you by The Mugar Foundation and The City of Boston. Watch from the Boston Common.

Midnight Fireworks

Welcome the New Year with a breathtaking Fireworks display over the Boston Harbor at midnight, brought to you by The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park.

New Year’s Day, Noon

At Copley Square on the main stage, enjoy the performance by singer and songwriter LaQuandra Seymore who brings her vocal versatility and range to First Night Boston. Drawing comparisons to strong female artists such as Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé, with a twist of Patti LaBelle, Seymore will bring smiles to audiences of all ages in this daytime performance.

New Year’s Day, 1 p.m.

At 1 p.m., Guess Method is back to jam on New Year’s Day, on the Main Stage for a daytime 40-minute set in front of the Boston Public Library.
