Fairhaven Fire Department Press Release
At 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday, 4/27/21, the Fairhaven Police received a 911 call reporting a car fire in the garage at 10 Brook Drive. The Fire Department responded with a full first alarm assignment consisting of two Engines, and one Ladder.
Arriving units reported heavy fire coming from the garage. The fire took about 15 minutes to extinguish but the fire damage was contained to the garage. The house sustained significant smoke damage.
The fire destroyed the garage and the two vehicles in the garage. The estimated damage for the structure and the two vehicles is approximately $100,000.
The fire was determined to be accidental in nature. The fire originated in the garage after a family member was working on the fuel system of one of the cars. During the repair, fuel leaked and came into contact with an ignition source igniting the fire.
There were two occupants in the structure at the time of the fire. One family member sustained minor burns to both forearms and the other escaped without injury.
