The Fairhaven Fire Department gave its annual safety demonstration in conjunction with the Millicent Library summer reading program on Wednesday, 7/11/18, on the lawn of the Unitarian Church on Walnut Street. Under threatening skies, public information officer Wayne Oliveira explained fire safety measures to children and adults alike, explained how they only have about one minute to get out of the house during a fire, and let them get up close to firefighters dressed in full gear so they would know what to expect if a firefighter ever had to enter a smokey house to find them. Sparky the fire dog was also on hand to help get the message out. Children then helped firefighters pull the hose to the lawn and took turns spraying their friends, although the rain started just about the time that the hosing started.
