At approximately 3:28 p.m. on August 8, 2025, the Acushnet Fire and EMS Department was alerted to a garage fire at 12 Rotch Street.*
Firefighters arrived on scene approximately five minutes after the original call. Upon arrival they found a detached garage that was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately deployed hose lines and began an aggressive attack on the fire. The fire was declared under control by the Fire Chief approximately 30 minutes after initial fire apparatus arrived on scene.
Acushnet Fire and EMS Department had 13 firefighters respond to the scene with three fire apparatus and an ALS Ambulance.
Acushnet was assisted at the scene by Acushnet Police, Acushnet EMA, Fairhaven Fire and EMS as well as Mass DEP. Mattapoisett Fire Department provided an engine for station coverage; Mattapoisett Police Department also provided an ambulance for Town coverage.
There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters at the scene.
At this time the garage is considered a total loss, as well as multiple vehicles that were inside at the time of the fire.
The house sustained minor damage and no residents were displaced. A neighboring home sustained damage from the heat, and the residents were able to return to their home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Acushnet Fire Department and Acushnet Police Department.
