Fairhaven Fire Department Press Release
On Monday, June 6, 2022, at 03:31 a.m., the Fairhaven Fire Department responded to an activated fire alarm at the Royal of Fairhaven, located at 184 Main St in Fairhaven. The first crew arrived at 03:34 a.m. and reported an active fire on the front porch of the nursing home involving an A/C unit.
The crews extinguished the fire using a pre-connected hose line from the Engine. The fire was declared under control at 03:40 a.m. Crews remained on scene overhauling the area and evacuating smoke from the basement of the structure.
Paul Raposo, the Town’s Wiring Inspector inspected the area to ensure no additional hazards were present. All crews cleared the location at 04:43 a.m.
Two engines, one ladder, and two chief officers responded to the alarm. No staff, occupants, or firefighters were injured.
The facility staff attempted to knock down the fire with a fire extinguisher but were unsuccessful.
The cause of the fire is electrical. The electrical wiring from the unit appeared to have shorted out and ignited the wood frame porch.
The damage to the structure and a/c unit is estimated to be between $1,000.00 to $5,000.00.
