FAYB holds annual parade

May 14, 2025 by Staff Writer

By Beth David, Editor

The parade had to be postponed due to the weather a couple of weeks ago, so the Fairhaven Acushnet Youth Baseball league did not let threatening skies and a little bit of drizzle stop them this week, 5/10/25, from holding their opening day ceremonies.

The teams marched on Main Street from St. Francis Xavier School to Pope Park and the baseball fields.

President Matt Ponte welcomed everyone and mentioned a few highlights from last year, including that the league hosted some regional tournaments.

Vice President Chad Leclair thanked a long list of people and groups who helped get the fields ready for playing.

Fairhaven Select Board chair, Charlie Murphy, and Acushnet SB chair, David Wojnar, also addressed the crowd.

Jeff Sinko received the Dan Nault Volunteer of the Year award for his countless hours, especially as Umpire Chief, scheduling umpires for 300 games.

A second, kind of secret, Nault award went to Matt and Erin Ponte for their varied volunteer efforts, including the annual Christmas tree sale, the league’s most successful fund-raiser.

Former FAYB president Jay Williams threw out the first pitch; Sydney St. Onge sand “God Bless America”; and Gabriella Pavao sang our national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Then the league had a full day of games with all age groups.
