Press Release
Greetings Friends and Neighbors
I am writing to thank all the Republican and unenrolled voters who chose a Republican primary election ballot on September 1st and cast their vote to nominate me, Robert S. McConnell, to appear on the November 3rd general election ballot for Second Bristol and Plymouth District State Senate. I feel truly humbled and honored for your support. You have nominated the first Republican nominee for this Senate seat since 1990. Congratulations on finally giving our District a choice on the ballot.
I am Bob McConnell appearing on the ballot as Robert S. McConnell. The Second Bristol and Plymouth District includes the Towns of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett and the City of New Bedford.
As the chairman of the Fairhaven Republican Town committee and the elected Republican State committeeman for our District I am very active in our community. I serve as a POST-certified Massachusetts Deputy Sheriff with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office where I have been employed since 1987. Since 1982 I’ve maintained a Massachusetts nursing license. I am an active member of the New Bedford Rifle and Revolver Club and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. As a trustee, choir and church member of the Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church my passion is service to others.
This political campaign is not my first, I’ve demonstrated persistence and perseverance running for office in every election cycle since 2022. The issues which have compelled me to seek office are many, and many of you I’m certain are equally motivated to take action. I ask you to please exercise your most essential right to get out and vote.
I am, as many of you are, outraged that our First Amendment right to petition the government for redress of grievances are being derailed or ignored. In 2024 Massachusetts voters adopted question one by 72% which expressly authorized the State Auditor to Audit the Legislature. This petition and overwhelming voter-approved demand for a legislative audit have been to date denied and ignored.
The emergency preamble for Chapter 135 of the “An Act modernizing firearm laws (H4885) signed by Governor Healey on October 2nd, 2024 making the law effective that day was an unnecessary urgency. I believe this action was intended to prevent petition signers and legislative opponents from suspending the law while pursing a ballot initiative to repeal it. This action cannot stand. Vote NO on ballot question 9.
This tyrannical act alone has been described as “The greatest attack on civil rights in modern American history”. The imposed energy cost surcharges, the unfunded housing mandates on our cities and towns, and the increasing intransigence of the disastrous Healey administration and supermajorities in the House and Senate need to be challenged.
Political competition is a sign of a healthy representative democracy. Your support of my campaign will not be in vain and indeed your vote will send a powerful “people’s message” to Beacon Hill. I will be most grateful to serve you.
