Fairhaven’s Adaptive Bicycle Ready For Release: New Opportunities for Children
The Fairhaven Commission on Disability is excited to announce the release of the adaptive bicycle that was donated to the town by the Rare Riders Organization. With this generous donation children who have never had the opportunity to experience riding a bike can now join their families in this activity, further binding a family together.
After realizing the benefits their children experienced the DeSousa and Greenspan families created Rare Riders Organization, choosing Fairhaven as their first recipient of an adaptive bike. Without this donation the purchase of an adaptive bicycle would have been very difficult if not impossible for the town to make.
The bike is fully adjustable, accommodating a child weighing 125 pounds or less with a maximum inseam of 23 inches. The bike can either be pedaled by a child or pushed by an adult.
For more information or to reserve the bike contact the Fairhaven Recreation Center at 508-993-9269 and let them know you want to reserve the bike. The process is quick and simple to register and reserve the bike. An approved bike helmet is required (due to state law) unless it is not medically possible. Helmets are available at the Recreation Center or you are welcome bring your own helmet if you have one.
So, come on out and enjoy a trek on the bike path which is right behind the Rec. Center or another place in town. (A truck is needed to transport the bike due to the size of the bike).
