November 6, 2024 by Staff Writer

Oliver Brodo, a student at Elizabeth Hastings Middle School in Fairhaven, will have his artwork, “Southcoast Dreams,” included in the Steamship Authority’s 2025 calendar, along with 13 other students who were invited to participate from the Cape, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Fairhaven and New Bedford. Join us in congratulating Elizabeth I. Hastings Middle School 7th grader Oliver Brodo!

Oliver’s poster was recently selected by The Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority’s “Sail into Imagination” poster contest.

More than 50 students across the region submitted original artwork for the competition. Oliver’s “Southcoast Dreams,” joins 14 students whose original artwork was selected for the Steamship Authority’s upcoming 2025 calendar.

Oliver adds, “I’m so excited. I had a bunch of attempts and failures. I kept making mistakes, like smudging the paper. But after 4 hours, I got something together. I thought it would be fun to represent Fairhaven.”

Oliver received a $100 Steamship Authority gift card in addition to having his poster printed on a calendar.

Way to go, Oliver!

A limited quantity of calendars will be available for pickup at Steamship Authority terminals starting in December. Posters with winning artwork will also be displayed on board Authority vessels.

The 2025 calendar winners follow, including their name, grade, school, and the name of their artwork. All winning art may be viewed at https://bit.ly/2025artcontest.
