The Fairhaven Select Board welcomed the town’s newest police officer, Ian Furtado, at its meeting on Monday, 11/6/23. Ian Furtado was sworn in on 10/30, but got pinned on Monday, by this father, Jeffrey Furtado, who is also the town’s Water Superintendent.
Fairhaven Police Chief Michael Myers told the board that that Officer Furtado is a 2016 graduate of Fairhaven High School and a graduate of Franklin Pierce University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked as a corrections officer in the Bristol County House of Corrections, and graduated from the police academy on 10/27.
“We are very pleased to have him with us now on the Fairhaven Police Department,” said Chief Myers, adding that he will be a “great officer and a great assistance to our community.”
Officer Furtado’s father pinned his badge on him at the meeting, and the board recessed for a few minutes to take some pictures.
