One hundred and sixty-six Fairhaven households took advantage of the opportunity to get rid of all kinds of hazardous materials, including old oil, gasoline, paint, and pesticides.
Sponsored by the Board of Public Works and the Board of Health, the day event allowed residents to take old hazardous materials to the BPW garage where MXI workers sorted and packaged up the various materials to be recycled. MXi Supervisor, Milo Flannery, said the company recycles everything they can, oil and gas will be re-used, and latex paint will get remixed for re-use.
Dave Gerber got rid of acid and paint;mwhile Randall Day got rid of aerosol cans, and paint, some he had around the house for a couple of years, and some for decades.
Gerry Kiely got rid of some old gas and paint cans, that had been around for…how many years?
“Too many,” she said.
If you missed the day, contact the BPW at 508-979-4030, to find out how to properly dispose of chemicals.
