New Bedford Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office are investigating an unattended death, which occurred in the parking lot of Knuckleheads Sports Bar and Grill on MacArthur Drive.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, 8/7/23, New Bedford Police received multiple 911 calls reporting that a male had been struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. The victim, who was later identified as John Garrett Blomgren, 36, of Fairhaven, was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident is a 56-year-old Dartmouth man. He remained on scene and rendered aid to the victim before paramedics arrived.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed as of press time.
Mr. Blomgren was 19 and a senior at Fairhaven High School in May of 2006, when he was charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his classmate Thomas Reynolds, 18.
Four years later, in May of 2010, Mr. Blomgren pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 to 17 years in prison.
