Fairhaven’s new member of the Police Department, K9 “Blue” is officially named and in training.
The Fairhaven Police Department K9 Unit Facebook page has been posting updates on the progress of the unit.
K9-1, a Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, has been fully outfitted by Brian’s Car Care with transport kennel, cool guard system to monitor hot and cold temperatures in the vehicle, wiring, lettering and complete detailing.
The department held a contest for naming the new K9, with “Blue” winning by 13 votes. More than 1,000 names were submitted. The finalists were “Blue,” and “Phoenix.” Blue signifies the Fairhaven Blue Devils, the Fairhaven High School mascot, noted the department on Facebook. Phoenix signifies Fairhaven’s Fort Phoenix, the Revolutionary War era fort. The department asked for people to comment on Facebook, and “Blue” was chosen.
