Press Release
The Fairhaven Improvement Association (FIA) held its 143rd Annual Meeting and Dinner on Wednesday, 4/15/26, bringing members and guests together for an evening of reflection, recognition, and appreciation for those who contribute to the continued vitality of the Fairhaven community. The annual event celebrates the Association’s longstanding mission to Preserve Yesterday — Improve Today — Plan Tomorrow by recognizing individuals and businesses whose efforts help enhance the town’s character, civic spirit, and sense of place.
Each year, the Fairhaven Improvement Association presents Business Beautification Awards and Outstanding Community Service Awards to recognize those who demonstrate pride in the community and a commitment to improving the quality of life in Fairhaven.
During the evening, the Association presented its 2026 Business Beautification Awards to Olivia’s Restaurant and Off the Hook Bar and Grill. These awards recognize local businesses that contribute to the visual appeal and welcoming atmosphere of the community through thoughtful maintenance, attractive storefronts, and an overall commitment to enhancing Fairhaven’s historic charm.

Outstanding Community Service Awards were presented to Mike Jenney and Sherry Lopes in recognition of their dedication and meaningful contributions to the Fairhaven community. Both individuals have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to service and volunteerism, reflecting the strong civic values that have long been a hallmark of the town. Kathy Lopes accepted the award on behalf of her sister, Sherry Lopes, who was unable to attend the event.
State Representative Mark Sylvia, a past president of the Fairhaven Improvement Association, joined the celebration and presented each recipient with an official citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives. The citations recognize the positive impact each honoree has made through their service, leadership, and commitment to the community.
The FIA, founded in 1883, continues to support local initiatives that promote beautification, historic preservation, civic engagement, and community pride. Through programs, events, and partnerships, the Association works to foster a strong sense of connection among residents while helping to preserve the unique character of Fairhaven for future generations.
The Annual Meeting and Dinner remains an important tradition for the Association, providing an opportunity to gather, reflect on the past year’s accomplishments, and recognize those who help make Fairhaven a special place to live, work, and visit.
