Fairhaven gets 14.5”, warming trend will be here for a bit

January 12, 2017 by Fairhave Neighborhood News

Fairhaven residents Aubrie and Brett Pomfret took advantage of 14.5” of snow on West Island during the last snowstorm with this giant sledding hill in their yard. They used water, food coloring, and an old spray bottle to create the message. Photo courtesy of Scot Pomfret.

The region got hit with two storms last weekend. Thursday night, 1/5, into Friday, the area got hit with a smaller storm,  4–6 inches, in Fairhaven (depending on the part of town) and about 5 inches in Acushnet. The biggest winner on the 6th was New Bedford with 5.7”.

The second storm started on Saturday morning and continued throughout the day with blizzard conditions in some areas. Fairhaven got socked with 14.5”, but Wareham saw more than 18” and Acushnet saw 16.5”. New Bedford got 15.5” in the second storm. Temperatures that reached into the mid-40s on Tuesday night and all day Wednesday melted most of the snow by Wednesday afternoon.
