East Fairhaven School students collected 1500 items for the Shepherd’s Pantry, and handed it over this week. On Tuesday, pickup trucks took away box after box filled with canned goods destined for the pantry.
Each grade filled up boxes in a friendly competition that did not include prizes, said Principal Wendy Weidenfeller, but did include announcing the totals.
Fifth graders helped load up the trucks on Tuesday, and said they just wanted to help people have a good Thanksgiving.
Josh Arruda said he helped because some people do not have enough food and the canned goods with help them “have the best time, like we do at Thanksgiving.”
Olivia Darmofal said she felt proud to see so many canned goods going to people who don’t have enough food.
Brayden Tremblay said he was happy to help, “So people aren’t hungry on Thanksgiving, and will be thankful for the food.”
The Good Shepherd Pantry is located at 1215 Main Street, Acushnet. Visit www.shepherdspantry.com
