Earth Day Events

April 15, 2026 by Staff Writer

From EarthDay.org

Earth Day was born on April 22, 1970 — a date deliberately chosen to fall between Spring Break and Final Exams, maximizing student participation in what began as a national environmental teach-in. That single day drew 20 million Americans into the streets and sparked the modern environmental movement. Today, Denis Hayes serves as Board Chair Emeritus of EARTHDAY.ORG, the non-profit organization that grew out of that very first Earth Day and now mobilizes one billion people in 193 countries every year.

Our Power, Our Planet is Earth Day 2026’s theme reflecting a fundamental truth: environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election. It’s sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work.

Join us for a fun and informative talk about the importance of our community’s wetlands and vernal pool systems and the creatures that call them home.
