The Acushnet Fire Department received a donation that will allow the department to install lights on each rung of the 100-foot ladder truck. Frances Gwodz donated the money in honor of her late husband Edwin.
The department posted the following letter from chief Kevin Gallagher to Mrs. Gwodz on the department’s Facebook page on 1/23/20.
“As you know, this gift will be used to enhance the safety of all of our members. As a longtime resident of this town, you know that we have a dedicated group of firefighters and EMT’s that are hard-working and committed. It is my job to keep them safe. Your gift will allow us to have LED lights installed on each rung of our 100 foot ladder truck making a significant step forward in user safety.
“Understanding that this gift is in memory of your late husband, Edwin, I am pleased to inform you that I have decided to [have] red, white and blue lights installed. This is out of respect for your husband’s service to his country during the Korean War.
“Acushnet is a terrific community because of the people who live here. Thank you for making our town great and this department safer.”
