The show is co-directed by Denis Lawrence, Jr. and Shirley Byers, who have presented dozens of iconic and memorable shows together including most recently last spring’s blockbuster “Grease” which sold out all four shows to a record crowd. The pair has collaborated for the last 13 years and have now co- directed 25 shows.
Lawrence has stated that this show really mirrors what happened in the casting. “It’s really a story of different high school kids coming together to put on a show, not all having been in theatre before, just like some of the characters, we have jocks, brainiacs, thespians and more all just trying to fit in and have fun. It’s really a slice of what happens in the show itself”.
The cast features Dartmouth High School athletes in those “Jocks” roles including seniors Ray Gramlich (Troy Bolton), Jackson Hart (Chad Danforth) and Masan Igisomar (Zeek Baylor). Tom & Peter Quinn (who are a brother duo are first time DHTC theatre actors), and senior Ayden Carreiro rounds out the rest of the “Jocks”.
The “Thespians” are led by sophomore Kathryn Gifford (Sharpay Evans) and freshman Bryce Clancy (Ryan Evans). Other members of the group include senior Audrey Kertscher, junior Rowan Desautels, and sophomores Isabella Jorge, Sydney Melo and Noah Clark.
The “Brainiacs” feature seniors Olivia Crane (Gabriella Montez), Nadia Franco (Taylor McKessie), Grace Hughes (Martha Cox) and Alexandra Gonzalez-Lopez. Juniors Sofia Faria and Juliana Mallowes and sophomore Eden Sylvia also play “Brainiacs” and freshmen Amalia DaPonte and Kelsey Silva complete the group in their DHTC debuts.
The “Skaters” include senior Daniel Howayeck, juniors Lily Duval and Eli Champagne, sophomore Ava Hirschman and freshman Luke Langlois (who plays Ripper, the leader of the group).
The “Cheerleaders” include seniors: Drea Perry, Katherine Sullivan, Sarah Oswald, Molly McKenna, Elizabeth Fagoni, Katie Canniff; junior: Hadassa Viera and sophomores: Raquel Franco and Sydney Hart.
Junior Aerro Gove plays Ms. Darbus (the drama teacher), freshman Scotty Scott plays Ms. Tenny (the science teacher) and sophomores Brady Jackson and Annie Witzig round out the cast as “Jack Scott” and “Kelsey Neilson”.
