Welcome to our 100th column! Thank you so much for reading. Frankie really appreciates it
Paw In Your Mouth
Dear Frankie,
Mason is my best friend. We met at the park last year. The minute we started barking and yapping, I knew we would be friends forever.
Mason is an absolute hoot and can make you laugh so hard that you think your sides will split. She also is a wonderful and caring friend.
Last week we were talking about friends from our old neighborhoods. I told her about Cooper and said he was the funniest dog I had ever met. Mason seemed upset.
When I asked her what was wrong, she said, “I thought I was the funniest dog you ever met.”
I told her I thought she was funny, but no one could top her when it came to being a kind and thoughtful friend. Then she stomped off and hasn’t talked to me for two weeks. I don’t get why I’m in the doghouse.
Rocko
Dear Rocko,
Are you clueless? You hurt her feelings. You compared her ability to make people laugh to Cooper’s, and she came out on the short end of the stick.
Even though you complimented her other rewarding qualities, all she could hear was that you thought Cooper was funnier.
Put yourself in her snow boots. Would you like to have an exceptional talent compared to someone else’s and then be told they were more talented? Of course not!
You messed up and need to make amends. How about getting a tee shirt that says, I’m a Big Mouth Jerk, and wearing it to the park? Then walk over to Mason and say I’m wearing this to show you I know I was a jerk, and what I said was thoughtless and hurtful. I’m sorry and promise never to do it again. Can you forgive me?
Mason, being who she is, will probably accept your apology. Then thank your lucky stars she gave you a chance to do right by her in the future.
Best, Frankie
