Shoplifting
Dear Frankie,
What do you do when you discover your friend is a shoplifter?
Last week I saw my friend Roxy put a toy and an expensive collar in her backpack at the pet store.
When I told Fanny, a mutual friend of ours, Fanny said, “I’ve never seen her steal anything.”
Why wasn’t Fanny concerned and take what I was telling her seriously, Frankie?
June
Dear June
If Fanny took what you said seriously, she might have to do something about it, like confront Roxy and risk their friendship. By denying it she doesn’t have to do anything.
Fanny’s response shows that she cares more about being Roxy’s friend and less about her being a shoplifter, which is a serious crime.
Discovering unpleasant truths about one close friend is bad enough, but two? That’s an emotional whammy.
I’m sorry, June.
Best, Frankie
