Birthday Party
Dear Frankie,
My mom asked the parents of the dogs invited to my birthday party if any had food restrictions. Much to our dismay, we found out that two were allergic to eggs, one to peanuts, two to wheat, and three to dairy. One mom said that her son was not allowed to have sugar or diet drinks and asked that they not be available to tempt him.
So, my mom said it looks like cake, ice cream, and soda are out. She suggested that we play the usual party games and end the party with a trip to Petco where each guest could pick a toy to take home.
I like the idea of the shopping trip, but a birthday party without at least a cake and candles doesn’t seem like much of a birthday party to me.

Dear Rory,
Rory, I hear you — a party with no cake feels like showing up to a fire hydrant with no water pressure. Your mom’s trying her best to make sure nobody ends up in the ER instead of home with a goodie bag.
If you insist on a cake, how about one made of meatloaf with candles and bone broth drinks?
The Petco toy run sounds like a great idea to me. I’d trade cake for a squeaky toy any day of the week.
