Snacks
Dear Frankie,
I usually eat around five. Some nights, around nine, I feel hungry.
When I go to the snack jar, my mom says, “Are you kidding? You just ate.”
She must be joking, right? It’s been four hours since I last ate. Seriously, what’s the snack jar for if it isn’t for snacks? Is this gaslighting?
Ozzie
Dear Ozzie,
I bet your mom is skinny or not a big eater. Humans like that never get what it feels like to be hungry.
I don’t think she is gaslighting. But you clearly aren’t on the same wavelength when it comes to food.
If you notice that you don’t feel hungry every night, do what you did on the nights you weren’t hungry. On the nights that you are hankering for a snack, you could try to get your mom to change her mind by looking pathetic and longingly at the snack jar.
If that doesn’t work, which I suspect it won’t, you could try eating your dinner slowly and mindfully. I hear it can make you feel fuller.
Another idea is to drink plenty of water after you eat to help you feel full. This might keep your hunger pangs at bay until breakfast.
Best, Frankie
