The Foster Dogs
Dear Frankie,
My parents have been taking in foster dogs for years.
Despite the hardships that brought the dogs to a rescue agency, most were adopted after several months. Every few years, however, there would be a dog that, no matter how many months of care and attention he received from us, couldn’t adjust to living in a human home and had to be put down.
We suffered over these dogs because we knew that something very wrong had been done to them, and whatever it was, we couldn’t undo and make it right for them.
Willy
Dear Willy,
I can understand why you feel sad or frustrated, but remember, every dog you foster experiences care and affection, which is a gift.
Unfortunately, some dogs can’t be rehabilitated, but that doesn’t mean you and your parents failed them. You must not forget that these dogs’ last months were in a home with people who provided them safety, care, and love, which they might not have known otherwise.
You gave them a chance, and that is what truly matters.
Best, Frankie
