Am I Being Played?
Dear Frankie,
Nothing would please my parents more than for me to settle down with a partner and have a litter of puppies who would be our forever family. They have gone as far as building an apartment on the house for my guy and me so they can lend a helping paw with the pups when needed.
I have been dating Milo for four years. Early on, we agreed that we were meant for one another and would be together once Milo’s mother passed. Milo is an only dog. He rightly feels that he is responsible for living with his mom and caring for her until the time comes. In the early months of our relationship, Milo assured me that it wouldn’t be more than two years, given his mom’s advanced age and poor health.
So, when she passed a year later, I thought we would soon start a family. Milo, however, said he couldn’t move in with me until he sold his house. When the house went on the market two years ago, he didn’t get any offers and was unwilling to lower the price.
My parents and I wonder if Milo is using the house as an excuse not to move in with us.
Tiffany
Dear Tiffany,
I suspect your folks are onto Milo. There is no reason for him not to reduce the price of his house other than to use it as a delaying tactic. It’s not like he needs the money to buy a home for the two of you. Another option is he can rent the house and sell when the market is more favorable.
You need to bite the bullet and tell Milo you cannot continue the relationship unless he moves in with you in six months. The clock is ticking, Tiffany, and you are no spring chicken. Milo may not be your best bet if hearth, home, and kids are your goal.
Best, Frankie
