Dear Frankie

May 26, 2021 by Staff Writer

Spring Fashions & the Soaps

Dear Frankie,

Moxie and Maude are my dog park friends. The other day we were looking through an old fashion magazine that someone left on a bench.

Maude asked, “What do you think the fashion trends will be for the spring?”

I said, “That’s easy, all you have to do is watch the soaps to see what the leading ladies are wearing. They are known for wearing the most up-to-the-minute fashions.”

Moxie tuned to me and asked in a haughty voice, “You watch the soaps?”

“Sure,” I said. “Doesn’t everyone?”

Maude said, “I can’t speak for everyone, but my family only watches the evening news.”

Moxie piped up and said her family only watched Masterpiece Theatre and PBS.

Why were they making such a big deal about the programs our families watch on TV?

Perplexed, Jane

Dear Jane,

That’s an excellent question, Jane, and the plain and simple answer is Moxie and Maude were acting like snobs. They were implying that the programs their families watches were far more intellectual and cultured than the programs your family watches. Believe me; If these two were as bright as they profess to be, they wouldn’t need to put you down over the TV programs your family watches, to make themselves look good. What they said to you was mean and rude. Unfortunately, teenage girls Moxie and Maude’s age think it’s cool to criticize other people.

As a columnist, I meet many intellectuals like myself. I know for a fact that when many of us go on vacation, we read trashy novels and the gossip papers sold at the grocery check-out line. And why do we do that? I’ll tell you why: To relax and get away from our high-pressured lives and jobs. As far as I know, none of us have lost any IQ points because of our vacation reading habits. Definitely share my letter with Moxie and Maude. Jeez, the nerve of them.

Best, Frankie

PS My Mom likes General Hospital. My favorite is Young and Restless.
