Troubled Waters
Dear Frankie,
Our new neighbors have big parties on their back porch and play loud music late into the night. I have tried barking to tell them how much the noise and the comings and goings, upset me, but they don’t seem to understand or care.
My dad explained the situation to the husband and asked if he could turn the music down. He told my father if he didn’t like the music, he should wear ear plugs. Then he said if that mutt of yours doesn’t stop barking I’m going to call the cops and have him locked up in the pound.
When my dad came home, he told my mom that the next time he saw that guy he was going to punch him in the face. My mom said are you nuts, you will be charged with assault and battery and arrested.
Is it true my dad and I could get locked up?
Marvin
Dear Marvin,
This situation has definitely taken on a life of its own. Everyone needs to calm down and take a moment — you included.
The next time they blast music at a party, go to a room on the farthest side of the house and get under a piece of furniture or a pillow to block out the sound.
It sounds like your mom is a sane person. Perhaps she could call the wife and ask if she would be willing to meet to discuss ways to calm things down between the two men and come to an amicable solution.
Women tend to be more collaborative and less hot headed. If this doesn’t work, get back to me and I’ll go back to the drawing board.
Best, Frankie
