Hello everyone. My name is Emma DaCunha and I’m a freshman at Fairhaven High School. As many of you may know, my older sister, Elizabeth DaCunha, has written in the Fairhaven Neighborhood News all throughout her high school years, and I hope to follow in her footsteps.
I have always had a passion for writing and am excited to share what’s going on within the FHS community by continuing the DaCunha Dispatches.
Fall is here which means Homecoming and Spirit Week have kicked off at Fairhaven High School. At FHS, we are known for our amazing school spirit and pride. This year’s spirit week themes were USA day, Pirates versus Royalty, Color Cause Day, Superhero Day, and Blue and White Day which led up to homecoming on Saturday, 11/2.
Every year, Fairhaven High School hosts a homecoming dance organized by the cheerleading team. This year’s dance included a photo booth, concession stands, a DJ, and, of course, a homecoming king, queen, princess, and prince.
This year’s homecoming princess was sophomore Maggie Paiva and prince Nick Lajoie. Landon Pickup and Isabella Menard were selected as Homecoming king and queen. Congratulations to them and all the students nominated!
With this year being my first time ever attending a homecoming dance, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, this made the dance an even more fun surprise. The decorations transformed our gym, creating a fun atmosphere that everyone enjoyed. The pizza, cookies, and candy were all fan favorites too. But the most important element of a five-star homecoming dance is the music. The DJ played songs we all loved and even took requests.
Other students seemed to really enjoy the dance as well.
“I am a freshman at Fairhaven High school, meaning this 2024 homecoming was my first,” said one student. “I thought it went very smoothly. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and loving the DJ. My personal favorite was the 360 photo booth with all of the fun props that were included.’’
“As a sophomore, homecoming this year was far better than last year,” said another student. “I enjoyed being able to take a video with friends on the spinning tripod. The music could’ve been better and having a spot with good lighting to take photos would’ve been nice. Being able to spend time with friends and dancing with them was one of my favorite parts of homecoming this year.’’
Although according to some students, there is room for improvement, all agreed that they loved the dance and made special memories with friends.
Many thanks to the cheer team and all the parents and school staff who made this night possible. It was a great way to end the term. I’m already looking forward to next year’s dance!
That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed this glimpse into life at FHS. Stay tuned for my next article.
