Hello everyone! I know it’s been awhile, but I have some exciting updates to share about my senior year of high school.
There have been so many amazing memories created, experiences shared, and friendships made during my final year at Fairhaven High School. Our “small town with big heart’’ rallied on our football team as they claimed the Division Six Champion Title at Gillette Stadium, our Drama Club held their performance of “Prom: The Musical,” and some of our students received the AP Capstone Diploma for their academic performance.
We wore our blue and white gear for our final spirit week, danced the night away at Homecoming, and celebrated our senior nights for the sports we’ve played throughout high school.
We held the annual Mr. Fairhaven contest, where senior Gabriel Correia was crowned alongside a pool of enthusiastic participants, and we had an unforgettable Prom night at Kirkbrae Country Club followed by a successful After Prom filled with food, games, and fun planned by our PTO.
As you saw in the graduation edition of the Neighb News, our graduation was held on a beautiful, sunny day at the Alumni Stadium that marked the end of our high school journey.
So, what’s next? Well, amongst the senior festivities was college application season. As a student with hopes of becoming a doctor one day, I applied to many of the top schools in the country. After working tirelessly on what felt like a hundred essays and enduring the silence from admissions committees, I finally received the good news I had been hoping for: I GOT INTO HARVARD!!!
The feeling was unreal. I pinched myself, made my parents read the email to me over and over, and triple checked to make sure that they sent the acceptance letter to the right person. Turns out, they did indeed send the letter to the correct email address, it was not a dream, and I really am going to Harvard University.
With that being said, I will now be entering the next chapter of my life, starting college as a pre-med student in Cambridge!! But, before that, I hope to take all that I’ve learned from my experiences in high school and give back to my local community.
Alongside my older sister, Eliana DaCunha — a recent graduate of Providence College — I have co-founded a non-profit organization named “The Gen Z Agenda,” that focuses on empowering young members of our generation to make a difference.
Throughout the past four years, I volunteered, created various clubs in my school, and became involved with several organizations whose missions aligned with my passions. Our goal at The Gen Z Agenda is to educate, empower, and inspire young people to make positive change through mentorship, workshops, and skill-building. We are launching a Changemaker Fellowship that will run from July 2024-July 2025, and hope to bring together a community of members across the SouthCoast area that advocate for change and lift each other as they climb. The online application and further information is available on our website: genzagenda.weebly.com
Lastly, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to Beth David for allowing me to write about my high school experiences here in the Neighb News. From describing school during the COVID-19 Pandemic, to recapping school sports, clubs, and events, it was such a wonderful experience being a part of this paper, and getting the chance to connect with the readers of “DaCunha’s Dispatches.” I am truly grateful for the Fairhaven community, and will forever be a Blue Devil.
Yours Truly, Elizabeth DaCunha
