Fairhaven’s Municipal Energy Manager, contracted through Mass Save, will be at the North Fairhaven Open Air Market on Saturday, 9/19, to get input from the public on where to locate chargers for electric vehicles.
William Lefebvre gave presentation to the Select Board at its meeting on 8/24/26, and told the board that he will have maps and other materials to help people identify the places that would be convenient for them to have electric chargers.
Fairhaven only has three locations with chargers that the public can access. None of them provide revenue for the town. Mr. Lefebvre explained that there are three levels of charging, starting with the regular residential outlet and ending with L3, the fastest.
Rockland Trust has two L2 Ports; Alden Buick GMC has 1 L3 Port; South Coast Health System has 12 L2 Ports.
The town did have two at the Board of Public Works building, but those are no longer active after the grant money ran out.
The plan would be to eventually install chargers that people would pay to use, with proceeds going to the town.
L1 chargers (standard home outlet) charge about 3–5 miles of range per hour. L2 chargers use a 240V outlet and add 12-40 miles of range per hour. L3 chargers, which are the chargers found in commercial parking lots, etc., add 100+ miles of range in 15-30 minutes.
Mr. Lefebvre said the town has 247 registered plug-in hybrid of Electric Vehicles.
Mr. Lefebvre and his team will be asking residents what the barriers are that are stopping them from buying EVs. The group will identify incentives and resources available to help people switch to EVs. The will also have a flyer with a survey.
The information will be used to help them decide where to place the chargers.
Mr. Lefebvre has begun discussions with EV charger developers to explore the best way to move forward.
The information they receive on the 19th will be instrumental in that decision making.
The survey, “Barriers to Electric Vehicle Adoption – Fairhaven” is available online.
It includes 8 questions, including what barriers are preventing you from owing an EV, and where would you suggest placing EV chargers.
