One of Fairhaven’s oldest clubs is losing its longtime home. The Fairhaven Colonial Club, established in 1912, is losing the house at 6 Cherry Street which was left in trust to the club at the death of Martha Coggeshall in 1916.
The trust is administered by Bank of America, which sent a letter to the club informing them of the decision to sell and telling them to vacate the premises.
Details are sketchy on how the bank is authorized to sell the house without the Colonial Club’s input.
The club’s president, Cindy LeBlanc, was not available for comment and other club members would not comment for the record.
The club’s ownership of the contents of the building, including its impressive collection of Fairhaven historical artifacts and paintings, is not in dispute. The club is, however, selling off that collection. An auction is scheduled for June 10 at Marion Antiques, 164 Front Street, Marion.
