The canoers went to Angelica Island off Wilbur Point to dig around with metal detectors. There were four to five foot waves by the time the trio tried to get back to shore around 4:40 p.m. A resident could see they were in trouble and alerted Fairhaven Harbormaster, Tim Cox.
