Bristol County has not had a contested election for Sheriff since 2010. When elected, Sheriffs have a term of six years. In the last election in 2016, over 66,000 Bristol County residents left the Sheriff’s spot blank on the ballot, and 670,000 left the spot blank statewide. Sheriffs have a powerful role, overseeing over half of the Commonwealth’s incarcerated population. The decisions sheriffs make have a HUGE IMPACT on the people in their custody and in their local communities. Sheriffs have tremendous power; and when voters do not know their sheriff, that power can go unchecked. Join us for a non-partisan forum to get to know the candidates for Bristol County Sheriff. The community’s voice and vote are important!
