The annual Fort Phoenix Polar Plunge saw the largest turnout ever, with 268 people registering to plunge on 1/1/24 at Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven. And we all know that some people don’t register, so…
They even ran out of t-shirts.
Select Board member Charlie Murphy emceed, while Greg Fitzgerald handled the music. Mr. Murphy thanked the volunteers and before the countdown.
The plunge is free, but people are asked to register. The event raises money for the Fairhaven Dollars fo Scholars program, which gives money to graduating high school seniors.
Young brothers Carson and Hudson, and their friend Denver took the plunge. It was the first time for the brothers, but the fourth for Denver.
“Cold.”
“Cold.”
“Cold.”
They said one by one.
“My feet are numb,” said Carson.
“My inside is as cold as icicles,” said Denver, adding that it was not as cold as Mattapoisett was last year, though. “This was much easier, I think.”
“Cold,” said Sloane, who plunged for the first time.
“I feel like I have frostbite,” said Caroline.
Will the do it again.
Yes…big yes, from both of them.
“Cold. Really, really cold,” said Cecelia, who plunged last year, too.
She will definitely do it again, though, because…“I get to do it with my dad.”
