Bottle rockets fly through the air

August 16, 2023 by Staff Writer

Approximately 50 children and their adults got some hands-on lessons in making and firing off bottle rockets at the Millicent Library on Monday, 8/14/23.

Toby Dills explained the science behind bottle rockets, and attendees got to construct their own rockets and blast them off on the lawn of the Unitarian Church across the street.

The system uses water and compressed air from a bicycle pump to propel the plastic bottles into the air. Helpers secure the launch pad with their feet, while the rocketeer works the release cord. Each rocketeer created his or her own rocket, adding nose cones and fins for stability.
