For author Dawn Blake Souza, writing “From the Islands They Came”, the story of her mother’s Cape Verdean immigrant family, was a labor of love.
“It was my life’s passion to record these stories so they wouldn’t be lost to future generations. My mother was my greatest role model, and I owe all that I am to her. She taught me the importance of family and understanding where I came from and the appreciation of all those who came before me,” said Ms. Souza.
