Book Group

October 12, 2022 by Staff Writer

“The Orchid Thief”, this month’s selection, is a “story of beauty and obsession” written by Susan Orlean based on her investigation of the arrest of horticulturist John Laroche and a group of Seminole Indians for stealing rare orchids in the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve in Florida. Laroche planned to clone the rare orchids and sell them for “a small fortune to impassioned collectors” of which there are many in the world.

“The Orchid Thief” will be discussed at Fairhaven’s Millicent library, 45 Center Street, Fairhaven, on Thursday, October 20 at 10 a.m.in the library’s meeting room accessible through the Walnut Street entrance.

The discussion is free and open to the public. The book is available at the library or through the library’s website www.millicentlibrary.org. For more information call Norma Markey at 508-993-3745.
