Press Release
The Fairhaven Health Department has received several notifications of deceased birds and seagulls in the Fairhaven area. While we understand the concerns residents may have with possible correlation to EEE, our department does not have any knowledge of knowing if these birds have contracted EEE, nor do we have the necessary equipment to conduct testing. We are urging residents to please leave these birds where they are and to not come in contact with them.
Please do not bring birds or animals to the Health Department, Police Department or the Animal Control Office. The Health Department has been in contact with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, who conducts their own surveillance and bird and animal testing.
For further information, please contact the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Division of Epidemiology at 617-983-6800 and visit their website at https://www.mass.gov/lists/arbovirus-surveillance-plan-and-historical-data
