Blessing of the Fleet

May 20, 2026 by Staff Writer

The New Bedford Port Society invites the community to join us for our Annual Memorial Day Event on Mon., 5/25, with a procession starting at the historic Seamen’s Bethel, 15 Johnny Cake Hill, at 9:30am and moving down to the waterfront for 10:00am., at Pier 3, 51 MacArthur Drive. (In case of inclement weather the service will be in Seamen’s Bethel. Free and open to the public.

Each year, this service stands as a meaningful tribute to those who have served, those connected to the sea, and all who sacrificed in defense of freedom. The program will include musical tributes, readings of remembrance, and a moment of silence honoring all branches of our nation’s armed forces and the maritime community whose lives have touched New Bedford’s story.
