The wind and rain on Sunday morning, 11/25/18, subsided just in time for the annual food and toy drive organized by the Acushnet Lions. Twenty-six motorcycles showed up in the cold and through wet streets to escort the truck, donated by NWD, Inc., from the Rivers End Cafe to the Shepherd’s Food Pantry.
At the pantry, Scouts from Troop 11 and Pack 51 helped other volunteers unload the truck and pack it all into the pantry.
Lions president Joe Costa, the “King Lion,” said that since he has been president, every event has been wet.
“It rained at every event this year,” said Mr. Costa, adding that it did affect the amount of money raised, but he was still happy with the results.
“I’m looking forward to a sunny day,” he said. “The sun is always around the next corner.”
The Rivers End and the Lions made sure there were donuts and coffee for participants as the group waited for motorcyclists and others to drive up and add to the donations.
