Earthquake Relief Bake Sale This Saturday. Join Turkish native and long time Fairhaven resident Aylin Cetik and her family for a bake sale Saturday March 4 from 10am to 12pm at 89 Laurel Street in Fairhaven to help raise funds for the families in Turkey and Syria impacted by the recent devastating earthquakes.
Cetik, who was born and raised in Turkey, knows firsthand the challenges and trauma of the victims of this earthquake, having experienced an earthquake herself in Turkey in 1999. Many of the survivors’ lives are forever changed from the destruction and displacement of the earthquake. The vital need for clean water and sanitation, continuing medical care, providing for mental health care and rebuilding infrastructure and whole communities — the work is ongoing and will continue long after the headlines fade.
Cetik is hoping to raise awareness and support for the victims and families displaced and living without housing whose numbers currently are nearly 10 times the population of New Bedford. There are hundreds of thousands of children who need urgent humanitarian assistance. The need is great and any support is welcome and appreciated. Please consider visiting the bake sale and support the important work of humanitarian organizations to help the people of Turkey and Syria. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to The Ahbap Association (https://ahbap.org) and Doctors Without Borders (https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org)
