New Bedford hosted the 12th International Azorean Whaleboat Regatta this weekend. Three teams, Faial, Pico and USA competed. All three teams race in all three boats to test their skills.
Races included men’s and women’s rowing on Friday, and men’s and women’s sailing on Saturday.
This year, Team Pico took the top spot in all four races, which was a bit of an upset, according to organizer Sarah Quintal. In past years Team Pico excelled at rowing, while Team Faial excelled at sailing.
So for Team Pico to take all four trophies is “really, really amazing,” said Ms. Quintal.
