First held in 2004 in New Bedford, the Azorean Maritime Heritage Society’s International Azorean Whaleboat Regatta alternates every other year between New Bedford and the Azores. This weekend, 9/8, 9, 10, New Bedford’s Clark’s Cove was packed with whaleboat rowing and sailing races. Cultural events, awards ceremony, and entertainment rounded out the weekend for the many guests, both local and international, who converged upon New Bedford for the weekend’s events. The American team did well, with both men and women coming in second in sailing and rowing on both Friday and Saturday. In the Dabney Cup Rowing, Team USA came in first; in Dabney Cup Sailing, Team USA came in third. Team Faia took first place and Team Pico took third place in both men’s and women’s rowing and sailing on Friday and Saturday. In the Dabney Cup Rowing, Pico took second (behind the USA), and Team NBWM took third. In Dabney Cup Sailing, Team Faial took first, NBWM took second, USA took third. Three teams competed in the International Regatta for sailing and rowing; 6 teams competed in the Dabney Cups.
