Gloria Steinem spoke at the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford on Saturday, 5/19/18. Presented by the Z and the New Bedford Lyceum, “A conversation with Gloria Steinem” included questions submitted by the audience, and was moderated by Mindy Todd, host of WCAI’s “The Point,” and New Bedford High School student Nadia Abouchanab. Ms. Steinem told the crowd that the election of Donald Trump and the resurgence of sexist and racist rhetoric is a backlash against gains that women and minorities have gained over the decades. She said she was hopeful because the backlash has also caused a resurgence of activism among women’s rights activists, especially young people.
